Epic Rides in Chile

Conguillío National Park

This Epic Ride is through a National Park that was the the setting for BBCs Walking with Dinosaurs.

Location

Conguillío National Park is located in the Andes, in the provinces of Cautín and Malleco, in the Araucanía Region of Chile also known as Region IX. Its name derives from the Mapuche word for “water with Araucaria seeds”.

The Ride

As of 2018, loose hard packed gravel. Because it is a mountainous road, it may become impassable during heavy rain and winter.

When is the best time to Ride?

The best time to visit the Conguillío National Park is between the spring and summer (November to March) when the climate is milder and the roads are in excellent conditions.

My tracking from Vallegrande to Samaipata (via La Higuera) . Tracking files can be downloaded here. (GPX/KML)

Highlights

Llaima Volcano

Within the Park lies Llaima Volcano. At 3150m it is one of Chiles most active Volcanos.

During the winter, one side of the Volcano is a ski resort.

Why is it an ‘Epic Ride’

It is not far off the main road and it is very peaceful place. Most of the tracks are dirt so you can spend alot of time exploring the area.
